Name Change - Department of Education, Skills and Employment
The Department of Education, Skills and Employment has separated into the Department of Education and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, following the change of government.
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) will remain under the education portfolio and part of the new Department of Education. ECEC information can still be found on the DESE website while a new website is developed.
The newly elected Commonwealth Government has written to the Fair Work Commission, informing them that it intends to legislate in the next sitting of Parliament, which commences 26 July 2022, to include 10 days paid Family and Domestic Violence leave in the National Employment Standards.
Director ID Numbers - apply now before appointment
With the annual general meeting season approaching for those services with a 30 June financial year, the requirement for potential new board members to obtain a Director Identification Number (Director ID) before appointment now applies to:
for-profit early childhood services, and
not-for-profit services structured as:
companies limited by guarantee, or
associations or co-operatives holding an Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN).
Racism. It Stops With Me is a national campaign that provides tools and information to help people and organisations learn about racism and take action to create change. The campaign calls on Australians to ask ourselves important questions about the role of racism in shaping society, the way we see ourselves and how we interact with one another. The National Excellence in Teaching Awards, NEiTA 2022, is now open and accepting nominations. This is an opportunity to recognise teachers and leaders who represent excellence within their teaching profession through their contribution to the advancement of education at a local, regional or national levels.
The NSW JobTrainer program is now offering fee-free part and full qualification courses for job seekers and existing workers looking to upskill or reskill in the early childhood education and care sector. Enrolments close on 31 December 2022.

Cessation of Unpaid Pandemic Leave and Pandemic Payment
Unpaid pandemic leave provisions have been removed from Modern Awards effective from 30 June 2022. Absences due to COVID will now need to be covered by other available paid and/or unpaid leave entitlements.
