What is the difference between a Strategic Plan and a Business Plan?
Strategic planning is where organisational leaders determine their vision for the future and set the direction for the organisation. A Strategic Plan is a longer-term plan over 3-5 years and is usually developed by key stakeholders such as the owners, members of boards and committees and key inputs from the leadership team, especially the director.
A Business Plan is the tool that adds the detail to the key focus areas contained in the Strategic Plan. It provides the detail of the information considered in developing the business activities to achieve the strategic vision.
Page 7 of our 2022/23 Governance and Management Snapshot provides more detail, including the key elements to consider when preparing these plans.
