As an invited member of the ACECQA National Workforce Strategy Stakeholder Group, CCSA is pleased to see further progress with the release of the Shaping Our Future: Implementation and Evaluation Plan.
CCSA continues to advocate on behalf of our Members raising the immediate issues affecting the early childhood workforce crisis.
The Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee has delivered its Report on the Fair Work Amendment (Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave) Bill 2022, which proposes to include 10 days paid Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) leave in the National Employment Standards. The committee recommended that the Senate pass the bill.
Transition to School Digital Statement Now Available
The easy-to-use digital version of the Transition to School Statement allows information to be shared directly with a child’s school and supports children to have a positive transition. To complete and send statements, the Centre Director at a Department of Education preschool, community preschool or long day care service registers and then provides access to educators and teachers.
The Jobs & Skills Summit was held on 1-2 September 2022. CCSA understands Early Childhood has been recognised as being important. ECA CEO, Sam Page stated, "It is affirming to hear so many speakers talk to the importance of ECEC for both families, workforce participation and Children's education journey".
The Jobs & Skills Summit Outcomes paper has been released, outlining the priorities.
The 2021 Early Childhood Education and Care National Workforce Census report has been released and provides a national overview of the early childhood education and care workforce.
The 2021 census collected information from child care services on staff, service usage, children with additional needs and access to preschool programs with the information collected assisting the Australian Government to develop and implement early childhood and child care policy.
The Fair Work Commission has handed down a further Decision in the four yearly review of the Children's Services Award 2010. The Decision extends the payment of Educational Leaders Allowance to Educational Leaders as per Regulation 118 and employed under that award.
CCSA has been actively involved in this process to ensure the best possible outcomes for our members and the Early Childhood sector.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Early Childhood Education Scholarships
Round 2 of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Early Childhood Education Scholarships are now open. Current and prospective students can apply for scholarships of up to $25,000 to support their studies in an eligible Early Childhood Education bachelor degree. Applications close on the 12 September 2022.
The NSW Department of Education early childhood education and care roadshows are being held online throughout September 2022. Register for a session to engage with the Department on best practice and regulatory requirements, and to hear updates on program and policy initiatives.
Macquarie and Melbourne Universities are looking for services to participate in a research project measuring educator-child interaction quality in the Australian Early Childhood Education context.

New ACECQA resources are available aimed to support approved providers, nominated supervisors, coordinators, and all service staff to understand and implement their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and support inclusion in children’s education and care services.
Employers are required to keep employment records for each employee in accordance with the Fair Work Regulations 2009. Failure to do so may incur a fine. These records must be accessible to a Fair Work inspector, be legible, and be in English.
Self-test Rapid Antigen Kits are continually reviewed by the Therapeutic Good Administration. It is a good idea to review the list on a regular basis to ensure the RAT’s your service is using are still approved by the TGA, to give the most accurate outcome.
